Hot Tubbing with Einstein

Hot Tubbing with Einstein

I keep reflecting on this great quote from Albert Einstein, There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as though everything is a miracle.

Two mornings ago I was up early and in the hot tub.  The stars were out and I had that moment of recognition that we are such a small speck in a vast universe.  I don’t think about it all that much.  Do we all have a tendency to be down to earth, so to speak, or is it just me?  But every now and then it hits me, the whole duality of being significant and insignificant simultaneously.   The miracle of us moving through space, suspended by gravity, living a big life on our little planet.  Mind blowing.

So I was thinking about Einstein’s quote.  First, I do believe that we create our own reality.  We can look at things as beautiful, and with wonder, or be so focused on our own inner world that we miss the magic of it all.  From Einstein I move on to Dr. Seuss, and his book, Horton Hears a Who.  Did he create that story out of the essence of, what is big and what is small?  I start to think about the possibility of whole worlds being suspended on microscopic particles of dust floating through the air.  I remind myself to tread lightly and be more aware of my impact on the world.  Who knows, after all, what miracle you might be stepping on.

I’m suddenly aware that I have started my day with my imagination racing out to the far corners of the universe and then back again.  I think Mr. Einstein would be pleased.
